How to Connect AWS to SharePoint Data Source
The following document will cover the process for connecting to a SharePoint data source within AWS:
- To start off this processes the user will need to navigate to the AWS Management Console then proceed to Amazon Kendra
- Expand the side menu and left-click on the Indexes menu, this will enable the user to add a new data source; and for this tutorial a SharePoint data source.
- Click on create Index and populate the required fields, for the IAM role select thee 'Create a new role' option and append an descriptive suffix to the name; for the 'Configure user access control' and 'Specify Provisioning' settings leave the default configuration then click Create; it should be noted that the creation process take quite a while
- After the previous step the user can select SharePoint from the various data sources
- The configuration for the SharePoint data source varies based on the configuration, firstly provide a name to the SharePoint data source and left-click on next
- For the 'Define access and security' page chose one of the two options, for either a URL must be specified but for a SharePoint Server a version must be declared; both versions of the Authentication configuration requires a AWS Secrets Manager secret if the user chose to use a SharePoint Server None should be selected for the e-mail domain. Leave the default option for Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) to none and chose the IAM role the user made for the prior step click Next to proceed
- For the configuration of the 'Configure sync settings' page the user will select any or all of the Sync scope options which will either sync based on updated items, update with attachments, or update based on variations with a local copy; an execution schedule will also need to be defined afterward click Next
- For this process to be successful the user will need to manually map fields between the SharePoint data source and the Amazon Kendra index fields after finishing click Next
- Review and create the configuration and click 'Add data source'
